Years ago, my friend @kevinkossowan told me about a time he had friends over for dinner.. he bought a box of ice cream, plunked it on the table and poured some stewed rhubarb overtop, and sliced it to serve. I thought it welches so brilliant, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I finally did it, and I’m pretty sure this is opening the door to a myriad of more elaborate family-style sundaes you slice non…slabs to serve. Don’t you just love this idea?? (Chapman’s sells boxed ice cream! I love how some people’s minds are blown when they realize this is why the box opens along one side!)

  1. I grew up with this in Finland. We only had ice cream in slabs, so this was the easiest way to do a family style dessert. Any compote from the farm worked… strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or currants.
And then once in a while freshly made waffles got thrown into the mix…!

  2. At camp when I was a camper, we use to get waffles and then a box of Chapman’s ice cream. The ice cream would be sliced in slabs that we would place on the waffle with another waffle on top. Reminds me of the ice cream waffle sandwiches from the EX. So good
